This site is my digital portfolio for the Master of Health Professions Teaching & Technology at UNMC. It collects the work I produced across the programme and reflects on what each piece changed about how I teach.
I am a Transplant Hepatologist and Assistant Professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where I am Medical Director of Adult Liver Transplantation and core faculty for both the Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology fellowships. I founded and direct the Enhanced Medical Education Track — a combined medical and surgical integrated track in liver transplantation — a four-year supplemental medical school curriculum I established with the Department of Surgery, taking two to three students a year.

A note on what runs through this work
To write — four or five sentences. Two threads run through the whole programme and neither is visible from any single artifact page. Worth stating here:
- The hepatology education gap. You named it in 2023 (Pan et al.: 22% of graduating students had any hepatology rotation exposure; 42% felt adequately taught), built a curriculum and an e-module around it, founded a track to close it, and by 2026 were surveying medical school curricular deans to measure it yourself.
- Gamification. “Who Wants To Be A Hepatologist” (2024) → the Acute Liver Failure escape room (2025) → a formal research proposal on AI-augmented gamification (2026). The same instinct, progressively better evidenced.
